How accurate is indexaction?

Indexed is close to proof: Google showed the URL. Not indexed is a strong signal, not proof. We have not measured an overall accuracy percentage against a known truth at scale, so we do not quote one. This page shows how each verdict is reached, where it can be wrong, and how to test it on your own URLs.

How a check works

  1. Batches first. We send site: queries for your URLs through a search data provider, from one fixed market. The searches do not come from your address.
  2. Then one URL at a time. Any URL without a match gets its own site: query. Google sometimes answers the single form when it held back on the batch, so a Not indexed verdict comes from this step, not from a batch.
  3. Then the match. A result counts only if its host, path and identifying parameters match your URL. Trailing slashes and http versus https are ignored.
  4. If we cannot tell, we say so. A timeout, a provider failure or a result whose link Google hid becomes Error, and the credit is refunded.

What each verdict means

Verdict What happened How far to trust it
Indexed: found in Google Google returned that exact URL. High. Google showed the page.
Indexed: found under its canonical URL Google returned the same page without the tracking tag, comment anchor or country parameter you pasted. High for the page. That exact form of the URL may not be in the index itself.
Not indexed Google returned no match when asked about that URL on its own. A strong signal, not proof. Google says site: can leave out pages it has indexed.
Error We could not tell. The credit is refunded. Nothing was learned, so nothing is claimed.

Our own guide says site: is not a reliable diagnostic, and it is what this checker reads. Asking about each exact URL, and retrying before answering, narrows that weakness. It does not remove it.

Where a check can be wrong

  • www and non-www are different URLs. If Google has example.com/page and you paste www.example.com/page, the verdict is Not indexed. Check the form your site actually serves.
  • Pages picked by a query parameter. Google cannot search by query string, so ?v=, ?p= and ?id= pages are the hardest case. We also search for the exact URL in quotes. When that finds nothing and Google filled the page with other results from the same path, you get Error rather than a guess, so expect more of them on these URLs.
  • Language variants. URLs with ?hl= get one deep batched query and must match exactly, so a variant Google left out of that answer reads as Not indexed.
  • Redirects. We ask about the URL you pasted and do not visit it. If it redirects, Google will usually hold the destination, so the verdict is Not indexed. Check the destination too.
  • A verdict is one moment. Pages enter and drop out of the index, and new pages can take weeks. Re-check before acting on a single result.

What we have got wrong

We add to this list when we find something.

Fixed 2 November 2026: another page counted as proof
The checker accepted any result on the same path, so one indexed YouTube video or WordPress post made others on that path read as Indexed. In the results we held, 385 of 18,613 Indexed verdicts (2.1%) rested on a different page, so they prove nothing about the URL checked. Most belonged to one account, which we contacted directly. A result must now be the same page.
Fixed 1 November 2026: hidden result links
Search data providers can return Google's redirect link instead of a page's real URL. A URL that could not be matched against those results would have read as Not indexed. Those answers now become Error. A check of our provider on 31 October found none of these links, so this was a precaution.

Test it on your own URLs

  1. Pick 10 URLs from a site you have verified: some you know are indexed, some you know are not.
  2. Run them through the free checker. It needs no account.
  3. Compare each verdict with URL Inspection in Search Console.

If they disagree, send us the URLs at [email protected]. That is how the bugs above get found.

Questions

Is indexaction 100% accurate?
No, and no tool that reads Google’s public results can be. Indexed means Google showed the URL, which is close to proof. Not indexed means Google did not show it when asked, which is a strong signal but not proof. We have not measured an overall accuracy percentage, so we do not quote one.
Is it more accurate than Search Console?
No. URL Inspection in Search Console is Google’s own answer and is the one to trust for a site you have verified. indexaction is for lists of URLs and for URLs on sites you do not own, where Search Console cannot help.
Do I pay for a check that gives no answer?
No. A check that ends in Error refunds its credit. A Not indexed verdict is an answer, so it does use the credit.
